Fraser Supports Primary School Race Challenge for Third Year

10th March 2020 We’re delighted to be supporting students at Bolham Primary School in the Jaguar Primary School Challenge (JPSC) for the third year running.

Fraser is sponsoring three teams from the primary school to take part in the national Challenge, which requires students to design and make the fastest race car. As well as constructing the car, students must design logos for their teams, create a design portfolio and produce a variety of presentation and marketing material.

As part of the sponsorship, we ran an afternoon of workshops for the students, which aimed to give them ideas for various elements of their challenge. Fraser CEO, Bruce Clothier, welcomed the students with a tour of the business. From product design through to factory assembly and marketing, the students were given a valuable insight into the day-to-day running of a real-life business.

Students then attended an interactive session with Alec Smith from Fraser’s R&D Engineering team. The session covered the fundamentals of aerodynamics, and the teams were able to brainstorm design ideas of their cars using Alec’s expert advice.

Bruce said: “It’s a real pleasure for us to get involved in helping the local community, and to be able to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists. Each year we’ve enjoyed seeing how the children get on with the Jaguar Primary School Challenge, and we can’t wait to see the results from this year’s race in May. Good luck to Bolham Primary School – everyone at Fraser is rooting for you!”

Quentin Dickinson, Class 4 teacher at Bolham Primary added: “The children have now completed their prototype cars and will be testing them at PETROC Tiverton. This will help them by highlighting any modifications that might be needed.

“At Bolham Primary School we strive to encourage our young people to engage with initiatives such as the Jaguar Challenge to develop team work, science and engineering skills. As a school, we would like to thank Fraser Anti-Static for their support, continued commitment and encouragement of our young people in the STEM subjects, as well as helping our children gain an insight into possible future engineering careers.”

The teams will be competing with their cars in the Devon regional finals on 9 May. Finalists will then go through to the UK National Finals at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon on 11 June 2019.
