Static Problems in Bottle Production
Static electricity causes problems throughout the plastic bottle and closures industry, including preforms, parisons, handling, conveying, sorting, filling, sleeving and labelling.
Static electricity causes problems throughout the plastic bottle and closures industry, including preforms, parisons, handling, conveying, sorting, filling, sleeving and labelling.
When filling plastic containers with dry products, static charge can cause many problems, including:
– attraction of the product to the closure threads
– the product can cling to the bottle
– the product can jump out of the container
– attraction of contaminants
Static Problems in Bottle Production - Select a problem:
In blow-moulding, a long range static elimination bar such as the NEOS 12L or NEOS 20 Intelligent Static Eliminator is positioned in front of the tool. This neutralises the static charge on the parison, to prevent its attraction to the tool.
Positioned at the end of the conveyor and above the collection bin, a 3024L or NEOS 12L Intelligent Static Eliminator will provide long range/wide-area static neutralisation of the bottle closures. This will prevent dust attraction, shocks to operators and even caps jumping out of the bin.
Positioned above hoppers and conveyors, a long range bar neutralises the accumulated static charge to stop the mouldings from sticking together and failing to feed or risking shocks to operators. Ideal solutions include the NEOS 20 pulsed DC static eliminators.
Immediately before the filling head, a short range bar such as the 1250-S or 3014, can be positioned 25 - 50 mm above the containers to neutralise the top part of the container and prevent product attraction to the threads.
If misbehaviour of the plastic container is also an issue, then short range static eliminators can be installed either side of the conveyor to prevent problems before the filling stage. The 1250-S or 24 V DC 3014 bars are efficient yet suitably compact to fit within the space constraints of a filling process.
